Dita Von Teese Stuns in 3-D Printed Dress: How’d They Make It?

The burlesque star modeled what is believed to be the world’s first-ever 3-D printed dress at New York City’s Ace Hotel on Monday night … and it required the latest technology to bring it to life.
Designer Michael Schmidt and architect Francis Bitoni made the entire gown virtually. Schmidt, who is responsible for Lady Gaga’s infamous bubble dress, first mocked up the dress on his iPad and then communicated with Bitoni via Skype to figure out how to make all 17 pieces and 3,000 joints work together to move freely with the body.
Once that was devised, the two went to 3-D printing design studio Shapeways to print each of the pieces, which Schmidt and Bitoni then lacquered black and embellished with 13,000 Swarovski crystals … a drop in the bucket for their muse. "That's not much in my world,” Von Teese, 40, joked on Monday at the big unveiling. “I'm used to having that many on my wrist.”

The 3-D frock, which took three months to make and was created specifically for the brunette beauty’s voluptuous body, is also much lighter than the outfits she’s used to wearing. Each of the 17 pieces is hollow, totaling in 11.5 pounds of material … a good 70 pounds lighter than the average Von Teese getup.
“We definitely wanted an exaggerated shape,” she explained. “When people ask if it's comfortable I say, 'Well, I like exaggerated shapes so the corseting is nice and tight.' The only thing I was super aware of was my heel getting stuck in the hem, but that didn't happen."
Although the 3-D creation – with its mesh-looking material and voluminous sleeves – may seem futuristic in its look and design, Schmidt insists it’s all Von Teese. “It was made to be an extension of her persona rendered through these futuristic means," he explained. "It's still in keeping with her old-world glamour."

Now that Von Teese has debuted the 3-D gown, it will next go on display at Swarovski before rotating between a few different museums.
But it will never be worn by another person again. "No other woman but Dita will ever wear this dress,” insisted Schmidt.
Not that they could, retorted Von Teese, "I'd like to see 'em try."

Hugh Hefner's 'number one' girlfriend, Crystal Harris, has proclaimed this year's annual Halloween Party at the Playboy Mansion the best one ever and seems like a lot of people agreed with her! Playmates, models, actors and the like make Twitter posts throughout the night about how much fun they were having, and why not? It is Hef's place! Hefner has long insisted his parties be the best, and he never disappoints. This year, the magazine founder donned his customary pajamas and robe set and then added fangs to become 'Vampire Mr. Playboy'. Harris came garbed in a sexy black Playboy Bunny costume, also with fangs, to become, think hard...'Vampire Bunny'! Hefner's other girlfriend, Trisha Frick wore a Snow White costume in honor of a friend from college who died last year in a police chase.

The usual guests were there, Andy Dick (yes, he's still alive), Paris Hilton and crew, Heidi Montag (she's still alive?) but few inspired awe like one of the musical guests, Prince! No, really it wasn't Prince, it was Puffy dressed like Prince...no, wait...it's Diddy now, right? Okay, Diddy dressed like Prince! Hef's ex, Kendra Wilkinson-Baskett came to the party in body paint! Crystal was DJ for the Halloween party but still had plenty of time to visit with guests. Trisha looked incredible having undergone a double mastectomy just months ago, strong girl! Of course Hef's lookalike son's, Marston and Cooper, were both there as well. Hopefully lots of guests took the time to congratulate the new Mrs. Hefner! No, you didn't miss anything, Hef's brother, Keith Hefner was recently married to the lovely Caya Ukkas at the Playboy Mansion.

Lots of non-Halloween things going on in the Playboy family. Cooper Hefner, 21, has been learning the ropes from dad and traveling to openings and such on behalf of the famed magazine. Crystal and her close friend, actress Ashley Matthau are finally close to opening their long-planned lingerie store in L.A. One of Hef's now-former girlfriends, Playboy model Chelsea Ryan, has moved out of the Mansion. Another former girlfriend, actress and Playmate Shera Bechard, graces the November issue of Playboy in a grown-up take on Uncle Sam. It proclaims "I Want Hugh!" and features 50 years of Hefner's girlfriends! Speaking of 50 years of girlfriends, Hef has recently become the star of a hilarious internet meme! In a play on word from Mitt Romney's 'binder full of women' comment, a photo of Hef (among his thousands of scrapbooks-in binders) it says "Binders full of women? Oh sure, I've got hundreds of them." That one has spawned tons of similar memes. Good news for Hefner's former girlfriend of eight years, Holly Madison, she is expecting a baby girl in March.
